I have wanted to make a tree quilt for several years and one that reflected the different seasons.
Eventually I developed this foundation pieced block that I had designed earlier. I am very happy with the result.
The block was made in two halves with the trunk appliquéd over the top.
I decided to use three graded shades of one colour for each tree and used many different hues.
I also made the decision to stagger the trees separating each one with a subtle sashing so that the trees stood out.
I used mainly woven Japanese fabrics for the trees & sashing and prints for the backgrounds of the blocks.
Finishing with a checkerboard border alternating the paler tree colours with the sashing fabric . This doesn’t dominate, so again letting the trees shine thru!
