Swirl
Swirl
Don’t you just love how a different choice of fabrics can change a quilt entirely.
You’ve heard me say it before – I love block patchwork, and I’m always exploring the possibilities. With this “Swirl” block, I changed the construction method between the two quilts. I started making the “bright” quilt with curved pieced blocks, but then wondered if I could bond the curves – so I started on the taupe version. The bonded method worked so well that I finished this quilt first and then returned to the bright, curved piecing. The taupe quilt is scrappy – each block is different. This quilt is sashed with a constant fabric & has a plain outer border.
The bright quilt uses a selection of “plain” fabrics (Makower Cottage Cloth) which I purchased with no plan in mind – how reckless ! I then started to gather lots of bright bold prints that complimented the plain fabric……and so another quilt comes together.
With the bright Swirl I used the plain fabrics in graded colours set on a diagonal for the backgrounds, then graded my bold prints to also work across diagonally. Each block consists of a plain background, a different plain sashing & a bold print.
I made a pieced border by continuing the corresponding sashing & assorted bold prints.
So decide on which design & then choose your method!
